Out-n-Back is, well, coming back! In 2015, follow our visual flight rules (VFR) flight through north-eastern Australia as we cover the remote interior of Queensland , up to the most northerly point of Horn Island and return via the coastline and eastern regional areas of Queensland.
Four years ago we covered more than 6—000 kilometres in a VFR flight in a Cessna 172 that began and ended in Bathurst.
While capturing some of the country’s most magnificent scenery and sights, including the Flinders Ranges, Lake Eyre in flood, the Furneaux Islands and Tasmania we covered a range safety topics to assist pilots who might be considering flying to remote locations.
Some of the safety topics we plan to cover include:
· Managing fleet flying | · Navigation |
· Refuelling | · Restricted Military Airspace |
· Ageing aircraft | · Emergency Landings |
· Weather and Overwater operations | · ALA’s |
· RPAs | · Maintenance releases |
· Dangerous goods | · Digital video recording |
· Regulator changes | · Human factors |
· Heli mustering operations | · EFBs |
· Daily inspections | · Royal Flying Doctors Service |
· Non-controlled aerodromes | · Navigation over featureless terrain & use of GPS |
