Now even more pilots and operators can take advantage of the Australian Government’s rebate for automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) which has been expanded for a further 3 years to May 2027 – and includes IFR operations.
ADS-B is a great tool to help improve your situational awareness when you take to the sky. By broadcasting real-time information on your aircraft’s identity, altitude and position, it allows other aircraft (and ATC, if you have IFR-standard ADS-B OUT) to see you, helping to improve safety. In a complementary way, ADS-B IN systems allow you to see information about aircraft around you on a display in your aircraft.
New round of the Government rebate
The Australian Government has opened round 2 of the rebate program which now includes equipment that offers ADS-B OUT, ADS-B IN or both. While the first round of the program was aimed at VFR operators, round 2 has broadened eligibility to include IFR operators looking to install ADS-B IN.
The rebate can cover up to 50% of the cost of purchasing and installing equipment, up to a maximum of $5,000 for each aircraft. There is no better time to take advantage of this safety-enhancing technology.
