Do you know anyone aspiring to become a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer (LAME)?
CASA is again offering 3 aircraft maintenance engineers (AME) scholarships worth $5,000.
The funding goes towards helping up-and-coming engineers achieve their CASR Part 66 licence.
‘There’s a shortage of aircraft maintenance engineers in Australia, and one of the ways we are supporting the industry is to offer a financial incentive to those AMEs who’ve started structured training towards a licence,’ Andreas Marcelja, Executive Manager Stakeholder Engagement, says.
‘This is the third year we’re running the AME scholarship program, which has been a real success since we launched.
‘The quality of the applicants has been so high that we’ve awarded almost double the scholarships we were originally awarding.
‘Our judging panel always has a tough job narrowing the field down, so we’re hoping that anyone who missed out in the past 2 years will apply again.’
The scholarships are aimed at those who haven’t gone through formal training but are currently working in the industry gaining experience.
Previous winners have featured on the Flight Safety Australia website and include engineers working for an Australian commercial airline, on rotorcraft, at a regional facility and in the far west.
‘This program has really identified some extraordinary talent in the field and shows the level of ability and skills we have in this profession,’ Andreas says.
‘All of our previous winners demonstrated the key requirements we’re looking for – an interest in aviation maintenance, excellent initiative and a high standard of aptitude and safety culture.
‘We know that $5,000 doesn’t cover all the associated costs of AME licence training, but the funding will provide some support in continuing education and training towards getting a CASR Part 66 AME licence.
‘So, if you know of any aspiring engineers working on their licence, tell them to put in an application now.’
Applications close 20 March. Find out more on CASA’s website.
